The Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA) has commissioned a modern 50,000-litre automated water supply system for the Saltpond Municipal Hospital.
The project, a key legacy initiative of the maiden Saltpond Homecoming Festival, was officially commissioned on 27th June 2026. It is designed to provide a reliable and sustainable source of clean water to the hospital, addressing long-standing challenges that previously forced the facility to spend over GH¢20,000 annually on purchasing water.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Osagyefo Ernest De-Graft Egyir, founder and president of MSDA, described the project as a demonstration of what is possible when citizens unite for a common purpose.
“Today, we proudly commission a 50,000-litre automated water supply system for the Saltpond Municipal Hospital, a legacy project of the maiden Saltpond Homecoming Festival. Water is life, and in a healthcare facility, it is indispensable. It supports quality healthcare delivery, infection prevention, sanitation, patient care and the daily work of our dedicated health professionals. This project will serve generations to come.”
Dr John Moses Wireko, Medical Superintendent of Saltpond Municipal Hospital, expressed deep appreciation for the intervention:
“When MSDA, under the visionary leadership of Osagyefo Ernest De-Graft Egyir, decided to intervene with this project, they did not just give us tanks and pipes; they gave us life and hope. Today, we have been shown that partnerships work and that when public-spirited citizens and organisations listen, lives change.”
The commissioning ceremony was chaired by Professor Alfred Yawson, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana. He emphasised the importance of unity and collective action in addressing the developmental needs of Saltpond.
The water project forms part of several legacy initiatives being pursued by MSDA to improve healthcare delivery and overall living conditions in Saltpond and the wider Mfantseman Municipality.
